Xanthelasma are large, yellow deposits of cholesterol that occur around the eye region.
While they do not necessarily indicate high levels of cholesterol, they can certainly
reduce an individual’s self-esteem. Due to their raised nature, they can also be difficult
to cover with makeup. Thankfully, there are minor procedures available to remove
xanthelasma.
How Does Xanthelasma
Removal Work?
At Skinnotion, we use our Surgitron RF to skilfully and precisely remove xanthelasma.
Surgitron is an advanced device that utilises ultra-high-frequency technology to cut
through lesions with fine precision, leaving extremely minimal damage to the
surrounding tissue. This process is not only less damaging to the skin than traditional
surgical incisions, but leaves less (often zero) bruising, swelling, scarring or other
complications, and quick recovery time. It works on the principle of radio-vaporisation by
attracting liquids to the probes being used. These probes are used to slice flat across
the base of the lesions with intricate precision, removing the raised mass and making it
flush with the skin. Numbing is applied prior, ensuring that there is minimal discomfort.
Your downtime is expected to last only a few days.
Can Xanthelasma Return
After Removal?
Unfortunately, xanthelasma can return after it has been removed. This is why we
choose to perform xanthelasma removal with Surgitron RF as opposed to traditional
surgical methods, in order to mitigate the chance of scarring and leaving the skin
healthy and unharmed in the event that further treatment in the same area is required.
Your treating physician will guide you through potential lifestyle changes which may
help to prevent recurrence.
