Dermal Filler Injections

Dermal filler is used extremely effectively to restore facial volume, and sculpt and shape facial features such as lips, cheeks, and jawline. With the help of a skilled injector, wrinkles and sagging can be plumped from below the skin’s surface, and facial contours can be added or enhanced.

How Does It Work?

Dermal fillers are a hyaluronic acid-based gel substance which is injected into the skin to add volume, shape and contour facial features, and smooth the skin’s surface from below. There are several types of dermal filler, all of which have different levels of viscosity (firmness/density). This is chosen according to where the filler is to be injected – lips, cheeks, jawline, backs of hands, or other areas of the body. After a thorough consultation so that your injector can establish a clear picture of your goals, filler is injected into the skin, pushing the tissue upwards in precise regions. The filler gel acts as a scaffold providing structure and shape below the surface. For example, in order to enhance the jawline, filler can be injected directly along the line of the jawbone, which will pull and tighten the skin above and below the jawline making it sharper and better- defined. The same can be said for filler injected at the base of the chin, sharpening and elongating the chin region. This process is a highly artistic skill which requires an experienced and trained injector with a natural eye for detail and beauty.

How Long Do Filler Results Last?

Typically, dermal fillers last 6-12 months, but there are several factors which can impact the longevity of fillers. This includes the area of injection, the type and quality of skincare used in the area, the age and physical health of the receiver, and the type and viscosity of the chosen filler.

What Are The Risks?

As an injectable service, bruising is common among dermal filler patients. This is normal and should subside within 5-10 days. These can be covered with makeup from 24 hours after treatment. Dermal filler also carries a risk of vascular occlusion. This results from dermal filler being injected into a vein or artery, which causes a blockage and results in a blood clot. Vascular occlusion is a standard risk of dermal filler even for the most skilled cosmetic injector. For this reason it is crucial that you understand and accept this risk prior to dermal filler treatments, and closely follow your post-treatment care instructions. Ensuring that you are aware of the signs of vascular occlusion means that you can report it straight away and that we can work with you promptly to treat it.

Is It Painful?

Local anaesthetic is injected throughout the treatment zone to numb the skin and ensure you are comfortable throughout. You may experience several days of soreness and tenderness for several days following the procedure, which may last slightly longer if bruising occurs.
