Scar Subcision

Face and body scars, whether they be a result of acne, injury or surgery, can have significant impacts on self-esteem. Depending on the type and the severity of the scars, they can also be extremely difficult to treat. Scar Subcision is a highly effective method of non-surgical scar treatment that can offer incredible results on scars that may be resistant to, or unsuitable for, other methods.

How Does Scar Subcision Work?

Scar Subcision utilises a needle or cannula that is inserted directly under the scar in order to break up the fibrous scar tissue, which tethers the surface skin to the deeper layers below causing that ‘dimpling’ effect.

What Type Of Scars Are
Suited To Subcision?

There are several different types of scars, each displaying distinct characteristics on the skin’s surface. These include boxcar scars, icepick scars, and rolling scars. Subcision is used on depressed and icepick scars, which are usually large and deep, and tethered downwards by fibrous septae. Subcision is used to break apart this tissue so that it can appear flatter and more even on the surface.

Is It Painful?

Local anaesthetic is injected throughout the treatment zone to numb the skin and ensure you are comfortable throughout. You may experience several days of soreness and tenderness for several days following the procedure, which may last slightly longer if bruising occurs.

What Are The Risks Of Subcision?

In line with other procedures involving needle and cannula application, there is always a risk of bruising and swelling at the injection sites. As the procedure involves tissue damage and remodelling, it is also important to follow the instructions of your physician pertaining to topical skincare after your treatment. The use of pigment inhibitors may be recommended for darker skin types.
