Mesoesthetic Skin Peels

Skinnotion offers a range of skin peels to suit all ages and concerns. Since acne scars present several concerns at once, including redness, pigmentation, and peaks and troughs in texture, our chemical peels can provide an attractive option for targeting multiple concerns at once. As well as reducing the appearance of scars, chemical peels work to restore and rejuvenate the entire complexion, reducing the scars but also improving skin tone and clarity, pigmentation, and signs of ageing.

What Are Chemical Peels?

There are many varieties of chemical peels, all comprising different ingredients, differing strengths, and catering to different skin concerns. During your peel treatment, a chemical solution containing chemical exfoliating ingredients like Phenol, Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or Alpha or Beta Hydroxy Acids (AHA or BHA) is applied to the skin. Different types of acids have different responses in the skin, for example, some work particularly well on pigmentation, while others reduce oiliness and pore blockages. Others simply work by evenly dissolving surface dead skin cells to stimulate new skin growth and reveal fresh, youthful, glowing skin below. All of these effects are necessary for the treatment of acne scars, which generally involve some post-inflammatory pigmentation and erythema, textural issues, and skin congestion.

Am I Suited To
Chemical Peels?

Our wide selection of Mesoestetic peels cater to a broad range of skin types and concerns, whether you are new to skincare or an advanced user of skincare products and clinical treatments. Our experienced Skinnotion nurses will work closely with you on peel recommendations that suit your specific skin and type of scarring.

What Do I Do Before A Skin Peel?

Any pre-treatment preparation of the skin will depend on the type of peel you receive. If you have received little to no chemical peels before, you won’t need to prepare for your visit, as we will always begin with a very mild peel so as not to aggravate or sensitise the skin. Peels require a gentle approach, with regular visits during which the strength of the peel progresses with time. As the strength and type of skin peel advanced from introductory to advanced, you will need to be caring for your skin with specific skincare products at home. This reduces the risks of adverse reactions, such as post- inflammatory hyperpigmentation, after a strong peel. We always recommend avoiding sun exposure, waxing, hair removal, laser or IPL treatments, or any other sensitising service within 7 days of a peel. Also avoid use of vitamin A products or exfoliants 48 hours prior.

Are Chemical Peels Painful?

Introductory peels are mild, and never painful. You may experience some tingling or itching as your skin pH changes – this is very normal. Other than this temporary sensation, there should be no discomfort. Stronger and more advanced peel solutions may feel hot and sometimes uncomfortable while they are on the skin, depending on their ingredients and desired outcomes. This will subside after its removal.

What Happens After A Skin Peel?

This will again depend on the type of peel. Very mild peels typically have no lasting effects on the skin. Some may experience some mild warmth and pinkness on the skin for a matter of minutes or hours. Advanced peels may remain red and sensitised for several days, and include some sloughing or shedding of the skin around 5-10 days post-peel. It’s always a good idea to pre-plan your peel treatments around your work and social commitments to ensure your skin has completed its healing phase before any special occasions. It is imperative to wear broad spectrum SPF50+ protection daily after your peel. Makeup and strenuous exercise should be avoided for 24 hours, and active, exfoliating skincare products avoided for 3-14 days afterwards depending on the peel type.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

You may require a number of skin peels in order to achieve the results you are expecting. Acne scars can be notoriously difficult to treat, and your unique treatment plan will be developed according to the type, severity, depth, and age of your acne scars. Other factors like additional skin concerns (pigmentation, for example) and your current skincare routine will also influence your treatment plan and how many peels are required.
