Mesoestetic Skin Peels

Skinnotion offers a range of skin peels to suit all ages and concerns, including active acne on the body. This doesn’t just occur on the face – acne often presents in both teens and adults on the back of the body, sometimes on the neck and shoulders, other times on the entire back. We can address this using chemical peels. Acne can be debilitating on one’s self confidence, especially if symptoms are chronic, long-lasting, and have proven resistant to treatment. Acne usually presents several concerns at once, including redness, poor texture, pain and discomfort, weeping and fluid, blackheads, milia, and risk of scarring and hyper- or hypo-pigmentation. A tailored approach is always necessary, delivered by experienced and compassionate nurses. Our range of chemical peels can cater to all of these needs and more, helping to reduce active acne breakouts, encourage healing of the skin, and reduce existing and future scarring.

What Are Chemical Peels?

There are many varieties of chemical peels, all comprising different ingredients, differing strengths, and catering to different skin concerns. A combination of ingredients may be recommended for you, such as Phenol, Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or Alpha or Beta Hydroxy Acids (AHA or BHA), depending on your unique acne symptoms and severity. Different types of acids have different responses in the skin, so depending on whether your primary needs are around post-inflammatory pigmentation, redness and swelling, textural issues, skin congestion or blackheads, your chemical peel recommendations will be tailored accordingly.

What Do I Do Before
A Skin Peel?

Any pre-treatment preparation of the skin will depend on the type of peel you receive. If you have received little to no chemical peels before, you won’t need to prepare for your visit, as we will always begin with a very mild peel so as not to aggravate or sensitise the skin. Peels require a gentle approach, with regular visits during which the strength of the peel progresses with time. As the strength and type of skin peel advanced from introductory to advanced, you will need to be caring for your skin with specific skincare products at home. This reduces the risks of adverse reactions, such as post- inflammatory hyperpigmentation, after a strong peel. We always recommend avoiding sun exposure, waxing, hair removal, laser or IPL treatments, or any other sensitising service within 7 days of a peel. Also avoid use of vitamin A products or exfoliants 48 hours prior.

Are Chemical Peels
Painful?

Introductory peels are mild, and never painful. You may experience some tingling or itching as your skin pH changes – this is very normal. Other than this temporary sensation, there should be no discomfort. Stronger and more advanced peel solutions may feel hot and sometimes uncomfortable while they are on the skin, depending on their ingredients and desired outcomes. This will subside after its removal.

What Happens After
A Skin Peel?

This will again depend on the type of peel. Very mild peels typically have no lasting effects on the skin. Some may experience some mild warmth and pinkness on the skin for a matter of minutes or hours. Advanced peels may remain red and sensitised for several days, and include some sloughing or shedding of the skin around 5-10 days post-peel. It’s always a good idea to pre-plan your peel treatments around your work and social commitments to ensure your skin has completed its healing phase before any special occasions. It is imperative to wear broad spectrum SPF50+ protection daily after your peel. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for 24 hours, and active, exfoliating skincare products avoided for 3-14 days afterwards depending on the peel type.

How Many Treatments
Do I Need?

You may require a number of skin peels in order to achieve the results you are expecting. Acne can be notoriously difficult to treat, and your unique treatment plan will be developed according to the type, severity, depth, and age of your acne scars. Other factors like additional skin concerns (pigmentation, for example) and your current skincare routine will also influence your treatment plan and how many peels are required.
